Aim of the course: The course will take a case study approach to Canadian multiculturalism, examining its certain broad perspectives and turning to a more detailed analysis of specific challenges. The course will not examine every aspect of Canadian multiculturalism, but will focus on two major categories: “First Nations and Inuit” and “Immigration and Ethnic Diversity”. It aims to discuss different perspectives on the desirability and the applicability of the Canadian approach to multiculturalism as well as facts surrounding several real world cases where multicultural policies have been put to the test. It fosters critical evaluation how the Canadian model has been applied and proposes improvements to both the model and the application of it.
