DOCTORAL STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS IN BRATISLAVA
The University of Economics in Bratislava offers doctoral studies in 16 accredited study programmes. The study is organized on the basis of the credit transfer system and completely in accordance with the Bologna process.
The study programme is designed for teachers, researchers, as well as specialists from the public and business sectors. The focus of the study is on acquiring research skills and knowledge needed to carry out independent research in economics, business and management sciences. Graduates from doctoral study programme receive the third level university education and upon completion the degree PhD (Philosophie Doctor). The programme can be studied in Slovak, English, or other international language based on the offer of individual faculties.
DOCTORAL STUDIES COMPRISE FROM TWO PARTS: STUDY PART AND RESEARCH PART
- The study component of doctoral studies consists in particular of advanced specialized lectures, seminars and individual study of the research methodology, core and elective courses. The study is carried out under the supervision of the scientific supervisor and is concluded with the dissertation examination.
- The research component of the doctoral studies consists of the doctoral student's individual or team research activities closely linked to the topic of the dissertation; presentation of research results and work in progress at seminars, conferences, research study stays at partner research institutions, both in Slovakia and abroad. The academic standard of research/scientific component is guaranteed by a student’s supervisor and the specialized committee.
THE DURATION OF FULL−TIME DOCTORAL STUDIES IS 3 YEARS; THE DURATION OF PART-TIME DOCTORAL STUDIES IS 5 YEARS; BOTH FORMS ARE CONCLUDED WITH THE DEFENCE OF THE DISSERTATION.
Doctoral study programme and the progress of each student is monitored and evaluated by a joint scientific board for the relevant field of study set up in accordance with the internal rules of each faculty. Fulltime doctoral students are granted scholarships based on the Regulation of the Ministry of Education SR, No 505/2004 Coll. on Scholarships.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTORAL PROGRAMME
An applicant for doctoral studies submits an application to the Office for Research and Doctoral Study at the Faculty concerned. The application is submitted on a prescribed form.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR DOCTORAL STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS IN BRATISLAVA CONSISTS OF:
a) written part:
- Essay outlining the PhD project for the dissertation in the Slovak language and in some international language
b) oral part:
- Presentation of the outline of the project of the dissertation and related scientific discussion
TUITION FEES
Part-time students - Slovakia and EU countries: 1000 € per Academic Year 2011/2012
- deadline for payment is 7th October 2011.
Full-time and part-time students from 3rd countries: 3000 € per Academic Year 2011/2012 + 200 € for every advanced course in international language beyond accredited study programmes.
- tuition fees have to be paid before the registration day and for courses the day before the begging of education process.
