On 14 and 15 November 2019, the Faculty of Economic Informatics of the University of Economics in Bratislava, together with the Slovak Society for Economic Informatics, organized a scientific conference 100 Years of Statistics in Czechoslovakia - Statistics Yesterday, Today and Current Challenges for the Future. The Conference was held under the auspices of the Chairman of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic Ing. Alexander Ballek and Dean of the Faculty of Economic Informatics prof. Ing. Ivan Brezina, CSc. and focused on the history of statistics in the former Czechoslovakia and in present Slovakia on the occasion of 100 years of statistics in Czechoslovakia.

The State Statistical Office was established on 28 January 1919 by Act No. 49, on the Organization of the Statistical Service as a new body entrusted with national statistical investigations. Since 1 January 1993, the Slovak Statistical Office has been operating as an independent institution.

The conference was also attended by the Chairman of the Czech Statistical Office, Ing. Marek Rojíček, Ph.D. and Chairman of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic Ing. Alexander Ballek, representatives of TREXIMA Bratislava, Ltd., SAS Slovakia Ltd. as well as other guests who also spoke at the event.
