On April 10, 2018, Ambassador of Ireland to Slovakia, H.E. Ms. Hildegard Ó Riain, gave a lecture at the University of Economics in Bratislava as part of the course Diplomacy in Practice. The guest was informed on cooperation with the with Irish universities Mr. Boris Mattoš, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Ildikó Némethová, Vice-Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Applied Languages.

In her speech. Ambassador Ó Riain focused on Ireland's involvement in the European Union as well as on the current challenges for the EU. Also, she underlined the need for active participation of young people in the European institutions and expressed her support for the Erasmus+ mobility programme. In particular, she touched upon the Brexit and its implications for economic and political relations after the Britain’s left the European Union. Students were interested in the current economic situation in Ireland, the use of renewable energy sources and other topics.
