On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of its founding, Bratislava University of Economics and Business awarded one of the highest university awards – the Imrich Karvaš Medal. This prestigious award bears the name of the prominent economist, university professor and first governor of the Slovak National Bank, Imrich Karvaš, who, through his work and ideas, left an indelible mark of professionalism, responsibility and values on the university like no other figure in its history.
Imrich Karvaš's legacy
Professor Imrich Karvaš played a significant role in the founding of the private College of Commerce in Bratislava in 1940, today's Bratislava University of Economics and Business, and in addition to his demanding job as Governor of the Slovak National Bank, he also headed the Institute of National Economy. He was a personality who combined economic expertise with a deep moral conviction that the economy must serve society.
Out of respect and gratitude for his contribution, the university has been awarding the Imrich Karvaš Medal since 2000 to individuals and institutions that have made exceptional contributions to the development of the university, economic science, and education. To date, 13 distinguished laureates have received this award, united by their dedication to professional work, truthfulness, and service to society. As part of the celebrations of the university's 85th anniversary, the recipients of the Imrich Karvaš Medal included other exceptional personalities and institutions whose work significantly influenced the development of the Bratislava University of Economics and Business and economic society in Slovakia:

Rector of the Bratislava University of Economics and Business from 2000 to 2007 - National Bank of Slovakia
The award for the National Bank of Slovakia was received by Júlia Čillíková, Executive Director Supervision and Financial Consumer Protection Department at National Bank of Slovakia.
"The Imrich Karvaš Medal is a symbol of continuity, respect and responsibility. Each of this year's laureates, through their work, represents the values that were at the birth of our university - expertise, service to society and the belief that economic thinking can be both human and visionary," said the rector of the Bratislava University of Economics and Business, Professor Ferdinand Daňo.
